What our volunteers say

Our volunteers bring so much heart, skill and energy to our centres. Here are a few of their experiences in their own words.

Caroline’s story

"I volunteer in the Early Years team at Oakwood Children and Family Centre, supporting a small nurture group twice a week. The children are very sweet and I love being part of their learning and development. The staff have been welcoming, friendly and kind. I look forward to volunteering each week. It has been a hugely rewarding and enriching experience. I have found a happy place where I am valued, encouraged and included. I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference within my community and to gain new knowledge and skills."

Krystina’s story

"Volunteering, for me, is about giving back to your community and helping others. It is a way to connect, share and support those who may be going through difficult times. It is also incredibly beneficial for mental health. Being able to talk with others and feel a sense of connection has helped me so much. While my ability to work is limited, volunteering gives me a strong sense of purpose and allows me to contribute in a meaningful way. I hope that through what I do, I can offer others comfort and security."

Emma’s story

"I did not know Aspire existed until my friend Charlotte, who works for the organisation, introduced me to it. I began volunteering at Gardeners Lane in Cheltenham, helping in the community café, which was great fun. Later I was offered the chance to volunteer at Brockworth Family Centre, where I now support a family group on Monday mornings.

The training I have received has been fantastic. I have gained so much knowledge, grown in confidence and discovered how much I enjoy supporting families. The families are lovely and I enjoy choosing activities that help them explore and play with their children. I feel fully supported by the staff at Brockworth Family Centre and I am grateful to be part of such a positive team."

Caroline's story

I’ve volunteered with the Cheltenham Junior Young Carers Group for 16 years, and it’s been incredibly rewarding. Each week I help with activities, snacks, and giving the children a much‑needed break from their caring roles. Seeing them grow in confidence and leave with a smile makes every session worthwhile. The team is supportive, welcoming, and I’ve always felt valued.

If you feel inspired by these stories, we would love to welcome you too. Volunteering with Aspire is flexible, rewarding and open to everyone.
