Parenting Courses
At Aspire Foundation, we believe that every parent and carer deserves access to high‑quality, evidence‑based support that helps them feel confident, informed, and connected. Parenting can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also bring challenges, questions, and moments of uncertainty. Our parenting courses are designed to offer practical guidance, emotional support, and a safe space to explore strategies that strengthen family relationships and support children’s development.
We offer two key programmes across our Children and Family Centres in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury: the Solihull Parenting Programme and the SPACE Programme (Supporting Parents and Children Emotionally). Both courses are delivered by trained practitioners and are part of the wider Early Help offer in Gloucestershire, ensuring families receive high‑quality, accessible support.
Solihull Parenting
The Solihull Parenting Programme is a well‑established, evidence‑informed course designed for parents and carers of children aged 0–11 years. It focuses on strengthening the parent–child relationship and helping families understand the emotional and developmental needs that sit behind children’s behaviour.
This programme is ideal for parents who want to:
-
Build stronger, more responsive relationships with their child
-
Understand why children behave the way they do
-
Learn practical strategies for everyday challenges
-
Support their child’s emotional wellbeing
-
Feel more confident in their parenting
The Solihull approach is grounded in three key concepts: containment, reciprocity, and behaviour management. These principles help parents tune into their child’s feelings, respond calmly, and build positive communication patterns that support healthy development.
What the Course Covers
The programme runs termly across our Children and Family Centres and takes place over 9 weekly sessions. Each session explores a different theme, including:
-
Understanding your child’s world
-
Tuning into your child
-
Exploring feelings
-
Parenting styles
-
Communication and connection
-
Managing temper tantrums
-
Understanding sleep patterns
-
Supporting emotional regulation
-
Addressing behavioural difficulties
Sessions are relaxed, friendly, and supportive. Parents are encouraged to share experiences, reflect on their own childhood influences, and learn new approaches that can make family life calmer and more connected.
Many parents tell us that the Solihull course helps them feel more confident, more patient, and more able to understand their child’s needs.

The tools they gave me have been invaluable, and things are so much better than last year.
SPACE Programme (Supporting Parents and Children Emotionally)
The SPACE Programme is an evidence‑based, five‑week course designed to support both parents/carers and children aged 7–11 years. It focuses on emotional wellbeing, resilience, and the powerful connection between parent and child.
SPACE is built on the understanding that all of us are shaped by our early experiences - how we were cared for, supported, and responded to as children. These early experiences influence how we:
-
Respond to stress and pressure
-
Manage strong emotions
-
Build relationships
-
Support our own children
The programme helps families explore these patterns in a safe, supportive environment and develop practical skills for managing emotions, strengthening relationships, and building resilience.
As Bessel van der Kolk famously said, “The parent‑child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention in the world.” SPACE brings this principle to life.
How SPACE Works
SPACE includes one session per week for parents/carers and one session per week for children aged 7–11. Both run over a 5‑week period, allowing families to learn together and support each other.
The programme helps parents and children:
-
Understand emotional triggers
-
Build emotional resilience
-
Strengthen communication
-
Develop calming strategies
-
Improve relationships
-
Manage stress and big feelings
Parents often tell us that SPACE helps them feel more connected to their child, more aware of their own emotional responses, and better equipped to support their child’s wellbeing.
